The predecessor of AVIC INTERNATIONAL Holding Corporation (abbreviated as "AVIC INTERNATIONAL") is China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation (abbreviated as CATIC) which was established in January, 1979 in the beginning of "Reform & Opening Up" policy implemented.

The past 30 years of historical course reflects the footprints of the glorious history of China aviation high-tech industry development from import to independently developing, to going global, playing an important role as the main channel, main window and leading force in import and export of China aviation's products. So far, the company has established wholly-owned or holding subsidiaries in each main city, owns 6 listed companies and 60 overseas offices, the business covers over 180 countries and regions. The asset reaches up to more than 50 billion Yuan RMB and the accumulated import and export trade volume has exceeded 40 billion US Dollars.

In 2008, CATIC, China Aviation Industry Supply and Marketing Corporation and Beijing RAISE SCIENCE limited were reorganized and merged, forming the present AVIC INTERNATIONAL.
